I can create poems which use poetic devices and follow specific forms.
Here are a few examples of the poems I put into my final product:
The Flickering Candle
Today is the day
that my life will be slowly melted away
"Stay strong, Stay strong".
The plastic will slide off of me
like butter on toast
I am waxy, shiny, and bright
but when I'm ignited
A huge boulder of pain
drops into my gut
"THUMP"
The heat is unbearable
inching down, and down at the second
I'm sweating now
I've gotta make an escape plan
Hmmm... gotta think...
I got it!
I rock back and forth
until I fall to the ground
"I'm free"!
"SNAP" "YIKES"
but at least I'm blown out!
The Lonely Eraser
So here's the deal
people pick me up
and wipe me across dirty paper
washing away their mistakes!
One day I'll be so shrivelled up from constantly
erasing,
and erasing,
and erasing
you won't even be able to see me!
they use me like a rented mule,
I mean without me who will wash away those
annoying misspelled words?
But I guess there's nothing I can do
So for now I guess I'll put up with it!
Those 2 poems were both Character poems in the perspectives of a candle and an eraser.
Why I like this style of poetry is because it would be funny to see something that is not real speak and say it's opinion of it's own life but won't really happen so that's why it's so easy to add in humour to this style of poetry! That is one thing I learned to do!
Reflection of Learning
Poetry Unit
Name: Chase Craig
Over the past six weeks Division 1 has learned about poetic devices and was introduced to a variety of poetry forms. Please reflect on the last six weeks when you answer the following questions.
1) What did you learn over the past 6 weeks about writing poetry?
I learned how to create poems using a specific form and poetic devices. I also learned how to create a proper final product including a minimum of 3 different forms of poetry.
2) 2) What did you learn about yourself and your abilities as a poet? (Did you discover that you had a natural gift at writing, or that you connected easily to the learning? Was writing good poetry more difficult than you expected?)
I discovered that I am a budding poet. I still need work but I have a lot of success with writing and understanding specific forms.
3) Where did you grow the most as a learner?
I learned most as a learner to stop rushing and slow down for once and a while.
4) What are you most proud of with regards to this unit? Explain why.
My final poetry project. Why? Because I put a lot of time and effort into this project. I used an app called Word Photo where you put a specific style of up to 10 words on a picture to explain it.
5) Where do you feel that you still need to grow? Explain.
I feel I still need to grow in the area of putting time and effort into my work.
